HMP&L pole relocation/replacement begins Thursday
Over the next five to six weeks, Henderson Municipal Power & Light will be conducting a pole relocation/replacement project on Watson Lane starting at Sunset Lane and going to Stonegate Drive.
The work starts on Thursday.
It is an early phase of the Watson Lane Road Widening Project, which will be conducted by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
HMP&L made a release on Tuesday that said work will begin at Sunset Lane and work east on Watson Lane through the U.S. 41/Watson Lane intersection and end at Stonegate Drive. Two to three crews of subcontractor Groves Construction will work from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday for the next five to six weeks on this first phase, said the release.
New poles will be placed in the widened right of way easement as part of Phase 1 of the project, said HMP&L.
HMP&L General Manager Brad Bickett said that one lane of Watson Lane will be closed and flaggers will be in place.
Phase 2 of the project, which will follow, will consist of the cutover and reconductoring of the power lines and removal of old poles and lines to make way for the subsequent road widening project, said HMP&L.
Bickett did not know for certain when this second phase will begin.
Bickett said the HMP&L work is getting done ahead of the project’s construction start, which could come next spring.
Other officials were contacted, but neither were certain about when the construction on the roads is set to officially begin.
According to past Hendersonian articles, the project includes street widening and the addition of sidewalks and gutters. It also entails putting in four lanes on either side of the U.S. 41/Watson Lane intersection, which should help to reduce the congestion at that intersection.
The four lanes include one lane coming into Watson Lane and three going out—a left turn lane, a center straight lane and a right turn lane.
The project also includes a turning lane off of Watson Lane into what will one day be an entrance/exit into Audubon State Park, said a past Hendersonian article.
