Mark Walker, a former Henderson Police Department officer and a current Henderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy, has died.
According to an HPD post, Walker was diagnosed with cancer.
The Human Resource Department of Henderson County Government said that Walker was currently employed as court security at the Henderson County Judicial Center at the time of his death.
Walker served at HPD from 1989 to 2009, and after that he moved on to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, said the Wednesday morning HPD post.
“Mark wore many hats, most notably as a devoted patrolman and a School Resource Officer. As an SRO, he shaped countless young lives with his patience, kindness, and unwavering support, leaving a lasting mark on generations of Henderson students and staff,” said the HPD post.
“Mark represented the very best of law enforcement,” the HPD post says. “His dedication to service was defined not just by his years on the force, but by his strength of character. Even after receiving his cancer diagnosis, Mark’s devotion to duty never wavered, he continued to put on the uniform, serving the people of Henderson with the same courage, grit, and compassion he displayed every single day.
“He had a rare gift for making a genuine impact on everyone he met. Whether responding to a call, walking the halls of a school, or simply talking with a neighbor, Mark treated people with respect and genuine care.”
